KNOW & BE

Two of the most important verbs you can remember as a parent are to, Know & Be.

Know - what exposure your children have to racial stereotypes; whether at home, school or even in the media. They may be hearing negative things at school, on the playground, or even when they spend the afternoon from Grandma and Grandpa ( who grew up in a different era). Don't be afraid to speak out to those who may be bad influences to your children in being considerate of those of other races.

Be - Be an example of an upright citizen in thought, word, and deed. Don't let you children see you say one thing in public, and then say another, or act a different way in private. Especially when it comes to dealing with delicate issues, such as race. Continue to Expose, Teach, Suggest, Trace, and Encourage these understanding behaviors in yourself and your children will learn from their ultimate role models.
